Help carry the message
We need volunteers to help answer phones; we have vacant shifts, and often we don’t have backup volunteers for those shifts that are covered. This means that calls are answered by an answering machine--especially late at night--when a sick and suffering alcoholic really needs to talk to a human being.
You can help.
We have three shifts for phone volunteers, 7 days a week:
In the office
9:00AM to 1:00PM
1:00PM to 5:00PM
In volunteers’ homes (through call forwarding)
5:00PM to 9:00AM.
We especially need volunteers to answer the phones (from their homes) at night.
It’s a hard shift to fill--not everyone can make the commitment. But if you can, you can make a big difference.
You can be there when someone really needs you.
Call the Intergroup office at 1-718-339-4777, and leave a message for the chairperson, or ask for his or her number. (Keep trying!) You can also email us--we can forward your email directly to the chairperson.
It’s a 90-day commitment, and you need to have at least 90 days clean and sober to do this service.
However we will consider you even if you can only make a 30 day commitment.
